GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

A Depression-era project, the bridge is a famous symbol for the city of San Fransisco, and spans nearly 2 miles. The bidge's name comes from the Golden Gate entrance to the harbor, but could just as easily have come from the "international orange" paint scheme. Painting the bridge is a never-ending job and a team of 25 painters add another 1000 golden gallons every week. It is also the city's favorite suicide site, with the total number of jumpers reaching 1000 in 1995...
