REDHOOK

In the middle of the nineteenth century, Brooklyn was a rich and powerful city, the third largest in the United States (today it would still be the fourth largest!). In 1861 Walt Whitman declared its destiny was "to be among the most famed and choice of of the half dozen cities of the world". The Brooklyn Navy Yard handles more than 150 million tons of cargo.
